What is Organic Land Care?
The application of principles as set forth by the NOFA Organic Land Standards to the care of landscapes. This involves maintaining soil health, eliminating the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, increase landscape diversity and improve the health and well being of the people and web of life in our care.
Plant health depends on growing the plant in the right place and in healthy soil appropriate to the habitat and needs of the plant.
To protect and enhance the natural elements that exist on the site - "To do no harm"
To work with natural systems rather than seeking to dominate them
To maintain and increase the long term health of soils
To encourage and enhance the biological cycles involving microorganisms, soil Flora and Fauna, plants and animals
To use renewable resources from local sources
To avoid pollution in the establishment and care of landscapes
To protect the diversity of the land and its surroundings, including protecting native plants and wildlife habitats
To work as much as possible within a closed system with regard to organic matter and nutrient elements
To consider the wider social and ecological impacts of the materials and techniques used and the landscapes created
