TRANSITIONING TO ORGANIC - WHAT DOES IT REQUIRE?
First of all, it requires a commitment and understanding between the property owner and the land care professional.
If you have been treating your lawn and/or landscape with chemicals on a regular basis, it will take some time to rehabilitate the soil and get away from the chemical dependence. Quick-fix fertilizers make lawns grow fast and green, but damage the roots and destroy the soil structure. Pesticides that rid the lawn of insects, eliminate beneficial soil biology that keep the soil alive and healthy. A healthy lawn & landscape starts with healthy soil. A healthy soil consists of 25% air, 25% water, 45% minerals and 5% oranic matter.
NOFA Organic Land Care Standards require a soil analysis as the first step in the organic program. We will take a soil sample from your property and send it to a lab. The soil test will identify what is lacking in your soil or what type of imbalances there are. Then we will provide recommendations and will work with you to understand what is required.
